Hello guys! This week's post is sure to be one of my favorites! So this week I tested the two toys I made on my dog. My dog is a 10 year old black lab with allergy induced epilepsy. She had around 60 seizures when we first got her so it is important for us to always pay attention to her behavior. When she is introduced to new toys she usually takes it right away and then spends so time examining it. I was hoping she wouldn't react to this toy any differently. So when I arrived home from school I decided it was time to try out her new toys. I gave her one at a time so she didn't feel rushed or like she was being smothered. I gave her the first toy and she immediately took it. It was a relief for me knowing that she liked it. There were of course still more tests I had to do before decided if the toy could stay. After she finished smelling it I grabbed it back. I held it out and was hoping she would try to grab it. When she put her mouth around it I began tugging because I know she tries very hard when playing tug-o-war. She began to pull very hard as she usually would. We played for about five minutes and not a single rip or knot came undone. It was awesome. I was so proud of the work I had done and now my team has many toys done. Below is a picture of the toys we have done at school so far. I wanted to add the video of my dog when she first got the toy but it wouldn't let me add it:(

Hey guys! It's me Shelby again and I'm back with another blog post. Yes I know I'm behind so just bare with me while I play catch up.SO after decided that we were going to need to bring materials from home one of our group mates offered to bring in some clothes to help with us making them. We knew that this week we probably weren't going to be able to get any toys finished but it was worth a shot. As well as working in class we also worked outside of class at our homes to make dog toys in our spare time. That week we didn't really get any done in class but I was able to get two done at home as well was my group mate Grace. I wasn't quite sure if I was ready to test it on my dog just yet. SO to make sure it was safe for my dog to play with I watched constant YouTube tutorials on knot tying and toy making just to make sure my dog would be safe playing with her new toy. I decided to wait until the next week when I had more experience with making toys to actually give it to her. Below I will add a picture of the two toys I made that week. One picture was taken after she had already seen the toy and played with it because I had forgotten to get a picture. Don't forget to check out our next blog post to see how my dog handled the toy.
-Shelby Hello everyone and welcome back to our blog. I know it has been awhile since I've last posted so I'm going to post my three updated now to show you where we're at. Week 5 was a very slow moving week for our group. We found a shelter to donate our toys too and they got back to us and told us that they would receive the toys. We then began planning for our toys and decided what we were going to do about materials. Going out and buying materials would be expensive and a waste of money. So we decided to use things from around our homes. That week we didn't get around to making any toys or even bringing the clothes and things in but we soon began to pull ourselves out of this very slow part of our project.Once we began making toys in the later weeks I had planned ( and still do) to use them on my dog. My dog is a very playful pup so If she cant tear it apart, no dog can. Stay tuned to see the blog posts from the next two weeks to see if we made toys or if we even got them donated. You will just have to check out my next post to see if we donated or even made the toys. This week in particular I was unable to post due to coping with a concussion. My apologies to the people who were waiting for a blog post.
-Shelby Well it has been awhile and I am very excited to share some things with you. First of all welcome back to our page and happy new year! 2019 is sure to be the year for me and my fellow team mates since our project is really kicking off. We have began to create pet toys that are in the making. When a pet toy is finished it will be added to the pet toy section with how to guides when recreating this pet toy at home for your animal. Another very important thing i didn't share on here but on our Instagram is that my beloved bird Hurley passed away. He was about 7-8 months old. We decided to get a new bird to join our family. As we believe right now she is a female and around 1 month old. Her name is Bermuda after the Bermuda triangle because she is mostly white but has yellow, grey, and blue feather on her stomach, tail, and head which makes her very mysterious like the Bermuda triangle. Now I'm going to get to the stuff you really care about the most. Our new years resolutions for this project. Below they are listed: 1.) Contribute at least 5 toys to our project 2.) Donate some toys to a local shelter 3.) Finish 3 more care sheets before our presentation I could go on and on about some of my resolutions but for now those are the main ones. Enjoy the picture below of baby Bermuda and I hope you all have a splendid new year. - Shelby Hello Everyone! It is great to finally check back in with you after this long week. Hello my name is Shelby! I am one of the four members of the project "Share the Pet Care". Our project is about providing care guides to all pet owners not just dog and cat owners. We will also be providing and donating special dietary treats for animals with special needs. I myself have had hands on experiences with an animal with dietary needs. My dog Anya has dietary needs. When we first got Anya she seemed like a perfectly normal dog. The weekend after we got her she began to have seizures. She had a total of 62 seizures that first weekend. We then found out she is allergic to any artificial flavoring and artificial coloring. She now has to have certain foods and treats. This project is to spread awareness about problems like this and to help owners take care of their pets. Now that I've talked a little bit about our cause I'm going to talk a little about myself. I started this project with a group of friends to help spread awareness. I am an owner of three pets two parakeets Oakley and Hurley and a dog named Anya. I've also had many other pets in the past including hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, and a chinchilla. Each week I will be posting one blog post to keep all of you updated on our cause and where we are getting.
Sincerely- Shelby |
