Guinea pigs can be very loving and friendly companions with the correct care. Keep reading below to learn about the care of guinea pigs.
Pairing Process
Guinea pigs do not always need to be in pairs. If you are not going to be around it may be best for you to try to pair them so they won’t get lonely.
Housing
For guinea pig housing you should always use a big cage. Guinea pigs don’t like to be cooped up in a small area. I think the best route to go is a big cage with bedding. For bedding you can chose any style or brand it doesn’t matter!
Food and Water
Food and water should be changed when you wake up and before you go to bed. In one big bowl you should have hay. Guinea pigs live off of mostly hay. In the other bowl have pellets or a bled of food. Once a week you can treat your guinea pigs to small pieces of fruits and vegetables such as a 1/2 cup of chopped up strawberries. Guinea pigs look forward to this treat once a week. Water should be keep in a bottle that hangs from the cage so they can easily drink it.
chew blocks
Guinea pigs have long teeth and they are continuously growing. It is good to keep small chew blocks in there for them to chew one and cut down their teeth.
Training
Training is very hard with guinea pigs it takes a lot of patience and hard work if you plan on training a guinea pig you should use many different sites to find ways to train them.
Baths
It is important to bathe your guinea pigs I recommend every two weeks. Use certain soaps for bathing guinea pigs which I recommend asking a pet store which kind they recommend best for guinea pigs
